Kolmogorov had been working on substantial chaos research in the 19505, but the study of chaos in the Western world began with the work of meteorologist Edward Lorenz. In particular, James Gleick asserts that chaos combats the reductionism of many sciences - the tendency for biologists to specialize in Brassica rapa plants or for physicists to fixate on superconductivity History of Chaos instances of chaos have emerged in scientific papers dating back to the early twentieth century.

A prominent theme within the book is that chaos is not a lab-created idea instead, chaos is applicable to a plethora of everyday occurrences, like the rhythm of a beating heart or the pattern of cotton prices. I chose to read and review this book to gain deeper insight on a cutting-edge phenomenon that is continually producing new information and theories, I was especially intrigued by the author’s claim that chaos unites every science and creates a global, universal system. Chaos escapes the realm of classroom instruction and classical physics to challenge traditional scientific methods and equations.
